You Talk, We Listen: Social Media as the New Comment Card

25 Mar

There are now more sites than ever to leave comments to the restaurants you love (or hate!). Aspire, in an effort to hear what you have to say, has been listening in for quite some time now. We frequent sites like Yelp, TripAdvisor, Open Table, City Search, Gowalla, Urban Spoon, FourSquare, Swipely, Google, Restaurant.com, etc. We read your reviews and are able to gauge what we are doing right and what we can improve upon. So please, keep writing those reviews!

St. Patrick’s Day: Be Here!

16 Mar

Who doesn’t love pretending they’re Irish on St. Patrick’s Day? Oh, you are Irish? Well, you my friend are alright in our book.

In honor of those wonderful (Insert Fun Loving Irish Stereotype Here)…We will be having several specials on the menu tomorrow March 17th. Firstly will be a true tradition: Corned Beef, Cabbage and Potato Supper, like the one shown here:

We will also be serving up an Asian Inspired Appetizer Special (just shy of the walking contradiction that is the Scotch-Korean in the Starburst commercials): Asian pork steam bun with corn beef, pickled cabbage, Thai 1000 island dressing and Swiss cheese ($1.50 each). Sounds a little odd, we swear they’re delicious!

Wash all of this down with a pint of Green Beer, then an Irish Car Bomb, and you’re in for a good night. So slap on some green clothing, call a cab at tell the driver to bring you to the Swankiest-Irish-Celebrating-Bar-In-Town: ASPIRE. Your first, and possibly last, stop on the night where consuming nothing but green dyed edibles is in high fashion.

Weddings at Aspire: 2011 Food Trends (Desserts)

22 Feb

Aspire has become quite the spot for hosting a sophisticated, and stylish yet fun wedding in downtown Providence. While our space and decor may bring them in, our food cements the deal. Executive Chef Robbie and Banquet Chef Jori and their masterful pack of cuisiniers produce eye-popping and mouth-watering feasts for our meticulous brides and grooms. Just like fashion (in the words of the stunning Heidi Klum “One day you’re in and the next you’re out!”) and so many brides when planning their big day want food that is pleasing and of-the-moment. With that understanding Aspire seeks to be fixed on the course of diligent trend awareness, and while we’re at it, start a few trends of our own…

Mini Snacks: Many couples are now skipping the large traditional cake in favor of multiple types of small treats.

“Giant towers of fresh strawberries, croquembouche, and even wedding pies
are all great ways to celebrate the moment! Also popular [for 2011],
mini snacks served on the dance floor as guests are partying,
small shot glasses of custards, mini churros with warm chocolate, you name it!”
– Karen Bussen (Celebrity wedding planner)

Aspire’s Wedding Planning Team of Rhonda English and Sarah Potenza will help you match your after dinner treats to your theme, as Desserts are easily manipulated to keep with the color palette of your wedding. Other fun small bite ideas are Cake Bite Pops, Mini Cheesecakes, Chocolate Fountains with dozens of dipping options, and Candy Displays can bring whimsy to your event.

Quick Tip: You can hire a food truck to swing by for your reception. Like http://www.sugarushtruck.com/

Listen up! Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and rather than being disappointed when your partner “forgets” to make a reservation this year, or opts for the “I don’t know…what do you want to do” approach – be proactive! Choose Aspire Restaurant – The wine and liquor list will astound them (that high end Scotch they’ve always wanted to try, or that mysterious Red they’ve heard so much about? We’ve got it), The Grilled Tomahawk Chop’s presentation will floor them (see below – it is incredible!), and the price will elate them – just $65 per person for 5-courses!!

Thanksgiving is right around the corner!

12 Nov

Generally I won’t eat anything but the drumstick. It takes a very talented cook to get me anywhere near the rest of the bird. Then the other 90% of the plate is packed with all the lovely side items that really make the holiday famous. I think I could even do without the turkey entirely – except the coma afterward is pretty delightful.

When I first began working here I was full time on the front desk of Hotel Providence, my first day “alone” (as in, without someone watching my every move) was Thanksgiving. Aspire Restaurant came by with plates piled high with traditional holiday items and suddenly, the fact that I was missing my family dinner mattered very little to me. My promise to you is that you will not be disappointed by our offerings this year, if you join us for our feast on November 25th. Please see the menu below for further details…

Aspire’s Fall Menu Premier Party and Amy McCoy Book Signing

21 Sep

Sometimes we just look for an excuse to throw a party, and this was a great excuse! A few months back when planning our new fall menu we were put in touch with local blogger/cookbook writer Amy McCoy. We invited her to lunch and what walked in the door was one of the sweetest, smiliest, smart and talented women we’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with. Amy spent much of her career as a freelancer in TV Production, a far cry from the world of cookbook writing. However, her formative years were influenced by a family owned restaurant and a “no junk food allowed” upbringing. Amy’s debut book is available online and in all major bookstores, its 240 pages are brimming with colorful images (shot on the author’s back porch) and delicious recipes which will feed a family of 4 for under $15!

We invited Amy to be part of our Fall Menu Premier because the philosophies behind her cooking are so similar to ours – buy local ingredients whenever possible and keep your flavors seasonal.

The party happened on September 14th in the evening, set in Aspire’s courtyard park we offered a tasting to clients, local media, and friends. Future Affairs Productions decorated our courtyard in a Harvest theme with rocking chairs, bales of hay, pumpkins, mums, fence posts and even a scare crow. For all the images please visit our Flick page at: flickr.com/aspirerestaurant

As I mentioned before Amy McCoy is a blogger, which is where she started writing about food, you can visit her blog at: pourgirlgourmet.blogspot.com

Employee Tasting of New Fall Menu Items

2 Sep

Yesterday afternoon, 24 hours ago to be exact, we held a staff tasting of the new menu items. This time it was a bit different from the norm as we had amassed a small mob in the back kitchen – restaurant and hotel employees alike. Chef Robbie excitedly presented the menu in it’s entirety, old favorites and new flavors together. It was stunning. Robbie is a creative mastermind. He has devised, what feels to us like, some truly inspired items for the fall. No pictures just yet – coming soon hopefully – along with pictures of Robbie preparing the food. In the mean time I will leave you with these parting words:

Roasted Butternut Squash and Pumpkin Soup 5/7
sweet and rich describes this earthy combination of Pepita seeds, creme fraiche, roasted butternut squash, roasted pumpkin and a light dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Roasted Beet Salad  9
golden and red beets are roasted with rice wine vinegar, sugar, and fresh thyme. Served with rainbow micro greens, machego cheese, fried red onion and a horseradish marscapone

Vanilla Chai Tea Mussel 11
local Johnny Blue Mussels sautéed with garlic, ginger scallions, and Sambal Oleek, then simmered with vanilla chai tea

Gameretto Romano 13
shrimp and asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, pan seared and deglazed with Sambuca Romano and cream, finished with a white truffle cream

Roasted Veal Chop  26
with spicy Italian sausage and acorn squash risotto, marsala poached pear, cranberry-veal jus, and a pistachio gremolata

Grilled Giant Prawns  27
garlic marinated giant prawns, roasted cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, squid ink pasta, lobster saffron beurre blanc

Pear and Pancetta Stuffed Pork Chop  27
double thick Berkshire pork chop stuffed with pear, pancetta, shallots, sage, pan seared and then roasted with vanilla scotch reduction, served with roasted sweet potatoes, sauteed spinach and roasted mushrooms

These items are due to debut to the public in about 2 weeks!
